Notes: Contains a bonus DVD which features the videos plus behind the scenes with Kings Of Crunk. Released in the wake of Lil Jon's remarkable string of hits in 2003, the Part II CD/DVD EP bundles a quartet of remixes with a couple new songs, a bunch of videos, and some behind-the-scenes footage of the Kings of Crunk. The standout track here is the lead cut, the Elephant Man/Busta Rhymes remix of "Get Low," Jon's rowdy booty-shaker that had been one of the year's most ubiquitous party anthems. Elephant Man and Busta Rhymes are perfectly suited for the song's bouncy beat and tumultuous tone, delivering five-plus minutes of rambunctiousness that synthesizes the year's most popular styles, dancehall and party rap, by two of the Western Hemisphere's most animated vocalists. There's also a merengue mix of "Get Low," but it's much less effective. But then there are excellent remixes of "Throw It Up" (highlighted by Young Buck of G Unit) and "Put Yo Hood Up" (highlighted by Jadakiss), two of the best songs from Jon's Kings of Crunk album that are thankfully not altered, for the most part, at least in terms of production. The new songs -- "Get Your Weight Up" (featuring T.I. and Eightball), "What They Want" (Chyna Whyte), and "Dirty Dancin" (Oobie) -- aren't all that fascinating, though they're a pleasant addition. The same goes for the DVD, which is a fun watch (lots and lots of dancing women and hollering men, usually in some sort of club) but not really something you'll come back to repeatedly. The "Get Low" remix is the big draw here, no doubt. The Part II CD/DVD EP isn't a necessity for anyone -- neither newcomers nor diehards -- but it's definitely a nice, cheap pickup, especially for anyone who can't get enough "Get Low." ~ Jason Birchmeier With his sudden rise to hip-hop royalty with the high-crunk-content breakout single "Get Low," it's easy to forget Lil Jon had been on the scene for over a decade as an artist, DJ, and record executive. He's been purveying his unmistakable growl and raw rap style (somewhere between Three 6 Mafia and 2 Live Crew) for years with his East Side Boys on both disc and at clubs, and as such there's tons of leftover music lying around. Rather than sit back while others distort his vision, he's taken charge and released a remix follow-up to the platinum-certified smash KINGS OF CRUNK, titled PART II. PART II leads off with a standard but frantically sweet remix of "Get Low" that twists into a battle of the growls, as both Busta Rhymes and Elephant Man drop by to trade flows. The following remix is an unusual retooling of the same hit, but this time with an inspired merengue beat that unpredictably propels the song into rave territory. Other highlights include Jadakiss and Petey Pablo dropping by on a reinvention of "Put Yo Hood Up" and Young Buck and Pastor Troy toying with the English language on "Throw It Up."
