Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: A portion of proceeds from the sale of this CD will go to Nelson mandela's foundation to fight AIDS. Recorded at Green Point Stadium, Cape Town, South Africa on November 29, 2003. One of three CDs capturing the November 29, 2003, benefit concert for Nelson Mandela's AIDS awareness campaign, 46664 (named after Mandela's prisoner number), Nelson Mandela AIDS Concert: Amandla includes the big highlight of the series. A reunited Eurythmics sound bright, driven, and looser than ever on their ends-way-too-soon three-song set. The brief set problem is one all of the discs in the series share, but with the Eurythmics sounding this hot it's downright frustrating. Annie Lennox agreed to the reunion to show support for Dave Stewart's role in organizing 46664, and the joy from both comes through loud and clear on the CD. Stewart's partners in 46664, Brian May and Roger Taylor, don't reunite Queen as much as celebrate the band. Bono and Zucchero do a good job filling Freddie Mercury's shoes, but it's the Taylor Dayne-esque bellow of Anastacia that takes the set over the top. Poignant performances from Bob Geldof and Bono with the Edge, plus the empowering chant at the end, make this disc the pick of the three. ~ David Jeffries
