Performer: Various Artists
Producer: DJ Spinna; John Wink; King Britt; Sa-Ra; Casey Benjamin Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: Personnel: Nicole Guiland (vocals, background vocals); Caroline Crawley (vocals); John Wink (guitar); Jay Rodriguez (baritone saxophone); Casey Benjamin (Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizer, drum programming, background vocals); Stephen Roberson (drums); King Britt (programming); DJ Spinna (drum programming). DJ: King Britt. Audio Mixers: King Britt; Sa-Ra. Photographer: Patrick Messina. Park Hyatt Chicago commissioned King Britt to put together this DJ mix, apparently intended to act as a soundtrack for their seventh floor -- home to NoMI, a restaurant that isn't exactly White Castle or Old Country Buffet. Britt unsurprisingly stuffs the set with lush downtempo tracks that are bathed in soul, all the while maintaining his balance on a dangerously thin beam. This is ultratasteful stuff, which Britt has always been known for supporting, but none of it is certifiably innocuous -- a trait that most music of this ilk suffers from. Britt takes the opportunity to showcase some of the upcoming releases on his FiveSix label and also throws in some exclusives. Highlights: Spacek's exclusive "Peep Live Show," Sa-Ra's "Glorious," Scuba's "Angel," Anetria Wright's "Feeling of Love." ~ Andy Kellman
