To listen to sound clips, you'll need the most current version of the
Performer: Alvin Lee (Rock)
Engineer: John Stronach; Phil Brown; Andy Jaworski; Tim Hunt Producer: John Stronach; John Stronach Distributor: Gotham Distributing Corp. Notes: 2 LPs on 1 CD: FREE FALL (1980)/RX 5 (1981). Personnel: Alvin Lee (vocals, guitar); Alvin Lee ; Steve Gould, Steve Gould (vocals, guitar); Mickey Feat (vocals, bass guitar); Raphael Ravenscroft (saxophone); Peter Thoms (trombone); Derek Austin (piano, synthesizer); Al Kooper (organ); Chris Stainton (keyboards); Tom Compton (drums, percussion). Illustrator: Derek Riggs. These two recordings were originally issued in 1980 and 1981, respectively. The same basic lineup on both records features Alvin Lee on guitars (of course) and vocals, and also Rare Bird's Steve Gould, with Mickey Feat on bass and drummer Tom Compton. There is a slew of guests, including Al Kooper and Derek Austin on the former and Chris Stainton on the latter. Musically, there is nothing wrong with either of these recordings in the same way there is nothing actually right with them, either. The production is strictly period and these albums are mired in it, dating the sound. Also, Lee's screaming guitar is mixed way too low on Free Fall. For fans only. ~ Thom Jurek
