Notes: Illustrators: Eric Wight; Matt Taylor. Photographer: Art Streiber. With this fourth O.C. mix, the popular TV series once again proves that part of its success and acclaim lies in pitch-perfect musical selections. The Futureheads kick off the set with the energetic post-punk tune "Decent Days and Nights," leading MIX 4's UK contingent, which also includes techno-pop vocalist Imogen Heap and the pensive Reindeer Section (fronted by Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody). For the cheerier side of the O.C. aesthetic, A.C. Newman contributes "On the Table," an appropriately sunny pop song, while Sufjan Stevens's hushed "To Be Alone with You" underscores the program's introspective, romantic aspects. Many acts here receive their biggest exposure to date, though well-established artists Beck ("Scarecrow") and Modest Mouse ("The View") are also on-hand to round out this eclectic, expertly compiled collection.
Rolling Stone (p.70) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[With] bouncy tracks by the Futureheads, the New Pornographers, A.C. Newman, Beck, Pinback and Modest Mouse."
