Recording information: Can Am Studios; Conway Studios; Doering Studios; The Sound Factory. Two years after the disaster of the Ghost Town tour that nearly broke up the band Poco regrouped as a duo with Paul Cotton and Rusty Young, though you wouldn't be able to tell that from the long list of guest musicians who are credited in the album's liner notes. Armed with an armada of fresh ideas and a bright new overly chorused synthesizer, Poco all but abandons their country-rock roots in favor of a reverb heavy electronic drum kit, bright synths, and production that has not aged well. Even guest appearances by Poco alumni Timothy B. Schmit and Zappa drummer Vinnie Colaiuta can't save the group from serving up a lackluster and forgettable ten-song offering that would prove to be the group's swan song until their reunion in 1989. ~ Rob Theakston Poco was down to the duo of Rusty Young and Paul Cotton by this point, which may be why, having been visited in the studio by former members Richie Furay, Timothy Schmit, and George Grantham, they structured the credits in such a way that you might think the old group had reformed. Not so. Rather, this was a mediocre (and final) effort by an act long past its prime. ~ William Ruhlmann
Poco was part of the first wave of West Coast country-rock bands, emerging from the ashes of the seminal Buffalo Springfield and initially built around Springfield's singer/guitarist Richie Furay and producer/sessionman Randy Meisner. They combined the harmony-laden folk-rock sound of the '60s with a country twang (mostly courtesy of pedal steel guitarist Rusty Young) and made a few noted country-rock albums in the early '70s before their sound turned slicker and poppier later in the decade.
