These reveal that as much as Kitt's detractors complain about her idiosyncratic half-spoken singing style, Kitt's voice is a remarkable instrument; Kitt was able to return surface liabilities into deeper attributes, and throughout this set, she sings with more grace, humor, emotion and sex appeal than many more traditional jazz and pop vocalists could manage. This material is her finest, including such defining songs as "I Wanna Be Evil" and "C'Est Si Bon," and the packaging, with a remarkably detailed 40-page book, is exemplary. This is a necessity for all Eartha Kitt fans.

Eartha Kitt's first claim to fame was in the 1940s as a dancer in Katherine Dunham's legendary dance troupe. This exposure helped her when she decided to pursue cabaret singing in Paris and New York, an art that suited her highly theatrical way with a song. This in turn led to a recording career ("Santa Baby" was one her big hits), and singing and acting roles on Broadway, on television, and in film. Her purring voice and cultivated vampiness made her a natural as one of three actresses to play "Catwoman" in the BATMAN TV series, and the actress/singer has also toured with a highly successful one-woman show and written a best-selling memoir. The ever-youthful star was still performing even into her eighties.
