Performer: Jack Hylton
Distributor: Harmonia Mundi (Distribut Notes: Personnel: Jack Hylton (vocals); Jack Jackson & His Band, Pat O'Malley, Sam Browne, Stanley Holloway, Hugo Rignold, Chappie Damato (vocals). Recording information: 09/25/1925-10/09/1931. British dance band leader Jack Hylton started making records in 1921. Since most Hylton compilations seem to fixate on the '30s, Dutton Vocalion's Vol. 4: I'm Perfectly Satisfied is a real treat for those who crave the earlier (if not the earliest) sounds. Skimming the surface of Hylton's discography with an assortment of HMV sides cut between September 25, 1925 and October 9, 1931, this heartwarming retrospective touches upon several delightful period pieces, including "A Cup of Coffee, A Sandwich and You," "The Grasshopper's Dance," two medleys of "Talkie Hits" (themes used in motion picture soundtracks) and the carefully hyphenated "Tid-Dle-Id-Dle-Um-Pum!" Good clean fun for those who are so inclined. ~ arwulf arwulf |
