Notes: The enhanced portion of this release contain rare pictures and a music video by Liz Abella. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Liner Note Author: Gary Beber. Photographer: Sam Shaw. Marilyn's Man is a feature-length documentary about Marilyn Monroe's first husband, Jim Dougherty, whom she married at the age of 16 when she was still Norma Jeane Baker. More than 40 years after her death, Monroe still has an exceptional ability to evoke feelings of wistfulness and nostalgia in her audience, and the soundtrack album of Marilyn's Man appeals to these bittersweet yearnings with an eclectic mix of instrumental and vocal music. The music wends its way through smooth jazz, the Latin pop of Liz Abella and Ed Jurdi, the exotic lounge music of Charles Afton, and more. Some songs were written especially for the film, such as Allen Wentz's biographical tune "Jimmie's Girl," while others came from existing sources, such as "Flying Home (Brenda's Song)," from Chantal Kreviazuk's popular 2003 album What If It All Means Something. Peter Green and Dr. John may be the best-known names on the soundtrack, but Marilyn's Man is a smartly assembled and enjoyable souvenir for filmgoers. The CD includes a thick, full-color booklet filled with enchanting unpublished photographs by Sam Shaw that is practically worth the price for Marilyn Monroe collectors. ~ Greg Adams
