To listen to sound clips, you'll need the most current version of the
Performer: Avant
Artist: Lil Wayne; Lloyd Banks; Jermaine Dupri Producer: Jermaine Dupri; C. Styles; The Underdogs Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Personnel: Avant (vocals); The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger (vocals); Lil Wayne, Lloyd Banks (rap vocals); Jermaine Dupri (spoken vocals). R&B crooner Avant is as smooth as ever on DIRECTOR, but this time around his emotive, passionate vocal stylings are supported by cutting-edge production that's sharper than ever. While Avant is not averse to getting down and dirty when the situation arises, he's a romantic at heart, and many of the tunes here find him exulting in the glow of love with a rhapsodic zeal that's uncommon among many of his contemporaries. Alternately declaring himself a "Grown Ass Man" and a "Director" of carnal activities, Avant pulls off a marriage of slow-jam heavy breathing and visceral, up-front beats that makes DIRECTOR satisfying on both sonic and sensual levels.
Vibe (p.214) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[H]is efforts to define a unique sound have yielded some standout moments."
The cousin of R. Kelly, Avant (born Myron Avant) is an urban contemporary singer and songwriter. Avant struck gold with his 1998 single, "Separated," which cracked the top of Billboard's R&B charts. His 2000 debut full-length, MY THOUGHTS, was produced by Steve Huff and released on Magic Johnson's label Magic Johnson Music. The album set the template for Avant's modern soul sound, which bears resemblences to R Kelly's, a sound refined on subsequent albums such as 2002's ECSTACY and 2006's DIRECTOR. Avant signed with Capitol for his 2008 self-titled release, which spawned the Top 20 R&B single "Break Ya Back."
