Producer: Mitchell Sigman; Myke Smith; Enrico Cacace Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA) Notes: Tributee: Depeche Mode. Personnel: Mitchell Sigman, Sianna Lyons (vocals); Phil Sheeran (guitar). Audio Mixer: Mitchell Sigman. Most of the covers on Electronic Tribute to Depeche Mode keep the spirit of the originals, at least. A shuffling contemporary club/dance rhythm overlays the brittle main keyboard line from "Policy of Truth," while "Enjoy the Silence" is reimagined with textures of minimal techno. However, the latter also includes a flat female vocal with none of the original's grandeur or even melodrama. There's always creative license with tribute albums; that's what can sometimes make them great. But Electronic Tribute to Depeche Mode often gets part of a song right only to falter with another. "People Are People" is an unimaginative mess of churning synths and hyper drumming; it sounds like Andrew W.K. covering Dead or Alive. "Everything Counts" is better, reworking the song as electronica inflected with R&B. But it's not enough to change the half-hearted feel of this comp. ~ Johnny Loftus
