Notes: Personnel: Duncan Sheik (vocals, guitar, piano); Gerry Leonard (electric guitar); Fil Kronengold (Fender Rhodes piano, background vocals); Jeff Allen (bass guitar); Doug Yowell (drums); Jay Bellerose (drum, percussion); David Poe (background vocals). Since his debut, singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik has been perpetually traversing the bridge between adult-contemporary accessibility (his catchy late-1990s hit "Barely Breathing") and chamber-pop experimentation (his work with avant-garde guitarist Bill Frisell on the 2001 Nick Drake tribute, PHANTOM MOON). On 2006's WHITE LIMOUSINE, he leans ever so slightly toward the latter. While there are forays into rock (the amped-up title track and the shimmering "Nothing Fades"), the entire outing, meticulously produced by Sheik himself, floats along on a dreamy atmosphere, most notably on "I Don't Believe in Ghosts," a nearly ambient song that seemingly aims for Brian Eno territory, and "Fantastic Toys and Corduroys," one of many lush tunes enhanced by the London Session Orchestra.
