To a degree, Stanley Jordan revolutionized jazz guitar playing. Rather than strumming and/or picking, Jordan taps the strings on the guitar fretboard, creating novel, attractive tones. In the process, Jordan brilliantly remakes both jazz and pop standards in a bright, inventive fashion. He caresses the original melodies while putting his own spin on the song, whether it's originally by the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, or Miles Davis. Backed by some of the finest drummers in jazz (Peter Erskine from Weather Report and Steps Ahead, Omar Hakim from Miles's band), Jordan makes MAGIC TOUCH one of the most dazzling debut albums ever.
Guitarist Stanley Jordan employs a two-handed "tap and touch" technique that allows him to play rhythm and lead simultaneously. Arriving from virtually out of the blue in the mid-'80s, Jordan became an overnight sensation via his virtuosic technique and unique delivery of both jazz and pop standards. He has since moved to incorporate other musics and electronic instruments into his repertoire.
