Residing in territory somewhere between Alabama and the Allman Brothers Band, the Marshall Tucker Band excels at both Southern rock and straight country music, a point hit home by this two-disc, 32-track collection. WHERE A COUNTRY BOY BELONGS spans more than three decades in the South Carolina group's history and focuses on (as the title would suggest) the group's more pure country leanings, presenting such classics as the plaintive "Driving You Out of My Mind," the gently rolling barrelhouse lament "Feel a Drunk Comin' On," and the soulful, groove-laden title track. The 2006 set also includes two new songs, the wistful "Never Again" and the lovelorn "Cold Day in July," which reveal that the ensemble is still vital after many lineup changes and even more years under their collective belt.
No Depression (pp.116-117) - "[T]his two-CD set showcases Caldwell's penchant for country chops. His playing moved effortlessly between chicken-pickin', country-jazz and bluegrass stylings..."
