Miami's Pitbull brings together the sound of reggaeton, Miami bass, and Dirty South rap, delivering a hard-hitting style that appeals to a number of hip-hop factions. EL MARIEL (the title is a reference to a harbor in Miami famous for receiving Cuban immigrants) is Pitbull's sophomore release, and the artist represents for both Miami and his Cuban heritage with his unique mixture of styles. The two singles that preceded the album's release--"Bojangles" and "Ay Chico"--are fierce, club-ready bangers, and production and guest appearances from Lil Jon, Wyclef Jean, the Neptunes, the Ying Yang Twins, and others prove that the artist, even this early on, is playing on a world-class hip-hop stage. Rapper Pitbull was born Armando Christian Perez to Cuban-American parents in Miami, Florida. Growing up, Pitbull was influenced by Miami bass and other forms of hip-hop, as well as the Cuban culture of his family, a combination that would lead to his own Latin-infused brand of street rap. An appearance on Lil Jon's album KINGS OF CRUNK brought Pitbull to national notice in 2002, and in 2004 he released his full-length debut, M.I.A.M.I. EL MARIEL appeared in 2006 and THE BOATLIFT in 2007, with Pitbull working all the while on remixes and cameo appearances for hip-hop and reggaeton projects with other artists.
