Distributor: Rock Bottom Distributing

Notes: Originally released on Grunt. All songs have been digitally remastered. The mid '70s was Hot Tuna's 'hard rock' period (bordering on heavy metal at times), due to such strong releases as 1976's HOPPKORV and especially '75s AMERICA'S CHOICE. Few Hot Tuna studio albums have successfully captured the band's plugged-in sound as well as AMERICA'S CHOICE, as Kaukonen, Casady & Co. crank it up to 10 and go for broke on eight bluesy jam-rockers. New drummer Bob Steeler also added an extra punch to the proceedings, as evidenced by such individual standouts as "Funky #7," "Hit Single #1," and the Robert Johnson cover, "Walkin' Blues." While Kaukonen and Casady's old pals in Jefferson Airplane re-christened themselves Jefferson Starship and pursued the lucrative arena-rock market (scoring a massive hit with RED OCTOPUS in '75), these Airplane old-timers respectfully stuck to their guns with AMERICA'S CHOICE.
Hot Tuna began in 1970 as a side project of Jefferson Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, who wanted to put aside psychedelia to explore their blues roots. Their format has frequently changed over the years (shifting back and forth from acoustic to electric), as has their personnel (the version of the band featuring fiddler Papa John Creach is beloved to fans), but their blues-rock sound remains consistent.
