This is another of the must-have classic albums by Milton Nascimento. This CD reissue of the LP released in 1975 had a digital remastering in Abbey Road studios, London. The album opens with the wonderful "Minas" (Novelli), a tribute to all sacred music traditions in the Minas Gerais state, which was deeply influential in Milton's sensibility. The album launched songs that became strongly emotional hits: "F Cega, Faca Amolada," "Beijo Partido," the nostalgic "Saudades Dos Avioes da Panair,," "Ponta de Areia," and "Paula E Bebeto." There's a preferential orchestral/choir treatment over the band's performances which strengthens the evocative bonds of an ancient Minas. ~ Alvaro Neder Although several of Nascimento's most familiar songs are contained in this debut American release, Milton (Minas) (referring to his home state of Minas Gerais) is a remarkably cohesive piece of work that stands as one of his finest. It includes famous tunes "Carvo e Canela" and "Nada Sera como Antes." [A Japanese import is available with bonus tracks.] ~ Terri Hinte & Michael G. Nastos
Milton Nascimento emerged in the late '60s as part of a new generation of Brazilian musicians and songwriters adapting the sounds of rock and pop. But even in Brazil, which has absorbed a wealth of musical traditions, Milton Nascimento is a unique artist. His soaring voice and plaintive songs have inspired and influenced musicians of all kinds who recognize the sheer soulfulness of his music, which at its best is both universal and deeply personal.
