Performer: Various Artists
Engineer: Miami tape Producer: Lubi Jovanovich (Compilation) Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Although Dance Hits Salsa, Vol. 3 doesn't have all the big names that its predecessors did, especially the star-laden Vol. 1, it still includes a lot of great music within the 14 tracks. Hctor Lavoe, Tito Puente (here with singer Camilo Azuquita), the Fania All-Stars (which is particularly fitting being that Protel now owns the rights to the Fania label), Willie Coln and Rubn Blades, and Orchestra Harlow are all featured artists on the compilation, mixed between lesser-known names like Sociedad 76 (the only ones with two songs), Tito Allen, Julio Castro & Orquesta Masacre, and Orchesta Bronco. Allen particularly has a great, smooth and expressive voice that works nicely with the horns on "Algun Da," and Puente, as is to be expected, is fantastic on the seldom-heard "No Me Touche Pas." All in all, Dance Hits Salsa, Vol. 3 is a pretty good compilation, and more importantly, it keeps the beat going, a necessary attribute for salsa dancing. ~ Marisa Brown
