Performer: The Goo Goo Dolls
Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA) Notes: This entry in the popular interview disc series features members of the New York band Goo Goo Dolls in a series of candid conversations about their late-1980s origins and early musical influences. They also discuss their successes and setbacks, particularly the departure of their original drummer George Tutuska, and their subsequent hit single with "Iris." The band is also forthcoming about the pressures of touring, and their attitude to fame.
The angst-ridden alt-rock that bands like Nirvana popularized in the early-1990s eventually branched off into a softer, more mature sound with such groups as the Goo Goo Dolls. Formed in Buffalo, New York in the 1980s, as raw and rowdy Replacements-style rockers, Johnny Rzeznik and company hit paydirt a decade later with the pop ballads "Name" and "Iris." They would remain steady hitmakers for over a decade.
