Notes: This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players. Arguably the leading jazz bassist of the 1990s and 2000s, Christian McBride is well known for his sense of adventurousness and eclecticism. McBride has never come close to resembling a hard-line traditionalist, but NEW YORK TIME could certainly fool those unfamiliar with his previous work. A straight-ahead hard-bop outing, NEW YORK TIME turns back the clock with a traditional acoustic line-up (including sax, piano, and drums), vintage tunes (including Benny Golson's "Whisper Not" and John Coltrane's "Naima"), and a classic sound. Moreover, McBride enlists bop icons Jimmy Cobb (drums) and Cedar Walton (piano) to round out his sound, making this dynamic date a winner from back to front. NEW YORK TIME is so unabashedly old-school it's actually a breath of fresh air.
