The set is full of romping boogies, slow-burn ballads, and straight-ahead blues stomps featuring a loose but gutsy band backing Sykes on vocals and piano. Sykes's singing and playing are characteristically bright, and he manages to sound elegant and classy without ever losing his bluesy punch. The 2006 reissue boasts improved sound and is a happy reminder of the pleasures of this luminous bluesman.
