Performer: Dio
Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA) Notes: 2 original albums on 1 CD: MAGICA(2000) / KILLING THE DRAGON(2002). Liner Note Author: Ziggy Rokita. This budget-priced twofer features a pair of late-period Dio albums, 2000's MAGICA and 2002's KILLING THE DRAGON. MAGICA was the first new album in four years from the golden-throated Ronnie James Dio. The work was also his first concept album, and the metal maestro delivers a powerful and stimulating work that recalls his Rainbow and early Dio years. DRAGON finds Dio penning allegories firmly rooted in the 21st century, with the galloping title track taking aim at the Internet's grip on society, and "Rock & Roll" addressing the knee-jerk self-censorship some radio stations indulged in immediately following 9/11's tragic events.
After fronting Elf, Rainbow (featuring Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore), and Black Sabbath (after Ozzy Osbourne's departure), legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio formed a band bearing his own name in 1983. Dio quickly became one of the world's top heavy-metal acts. In the late '80s, lineup changes unsettled the group, but the tenacious frontman persevered, leading Dio into the 21st century still waving its classic headbanging devil flag high.
