Distributor: Sony Music Distribution ( Notes: Spanning three generations of bluegrass, this collection includes performances from the Stanley Brothers, Flatt and Scruggs, the Foggy Mountain Boys, Bill Monroe and Ricky Skaggs. ~ Jason Ankeny The good news is that, featuring Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, Roy Acuff, and Ricky Skaggs, among others, this compilation features some of the most accomplished artists in bluegrass and that they perform such classic songs as "Blue Moon Of Kentucky," "Uncle Pen," and "Great Speckled Bird." The bad news is that very few of these tracks can accurately be called hits (much less super hits), in many cases they are not the original versions, and the disc contains only ten tracks at a running time of 29 1/2 minutes. Assuming you find it at a discount price and you're looking for only the most superficial sense of what constitutes bluegrass, however, the good may outweigh the bad. ~ William Ruhlmann
