Performer: The Mission UK (UK)
Distributor: Infinity Entertainment Gr Notes: This is at least the second if not the third Mission best of issued by Cleopatra (a label that is suspect at best in terms of quality). What separates it from the others? Not much -- except that some of this material is live, some of it is re-recorded -- these are not the original versions! The first-time buyer should beware. Longtime fans will take as many versions of their faves as they can get and that makes it possible for someone to consider this aesthetically OK (sketchy, sketchy thinking that) this is perfectly legal and licensed. Go in with your eyes and ears open. ~ Thom Jurek
Known as the Mission U.K. stateside to avoid confusion with a similarly named Philly soul band, The Mission formed in 1985 when singer Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams strayed from goth mainstays Sisters of Mercy. Plying a just slightly more melodic, but still ferocious, brand of dark-tinged rock, the band swiftly became a live phenomenon. The four-piece were also regulars on the U.K. pop and U.S. modern rock charts through the late-`80s and early-`90s with enduring hits like "Wasteland" and "Deliverance."
