Performer: Plies
Producer: Ted 'Touche' Lucas; Ronell 'Big Gates' Levatte; DJ Nasty; Midnight Black; Bei Maejor; Papa Duck Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: Representing Fort Myers, Florida, the up-and-coming rapper known as Plies first made noise by penning the Snoop/Akon hit, "I Wanna Love You." After the unbridled success of his first single, "Shawty," Plies was geared up to drop a full-length of his own. With a molasses-thick Dirty South accent and a gang of stress on his chest, Plies rips it over neck-snapping tracks by Midnight Black, Papa Duck, Gold Ru$h, Jonathan Rotem, Hen & Ro, Hall of Tunez Inc., and the Beat Eaters on his debut release, THE REAL TESTAMENT. Akon, T-Pain, Tank, and 40rty are featured guests.
Born Algernod Lanier Washington, the Fort Myers, Florida rapper known as Plies debuted in 2003 on the mixtape track, "Tell Dem Crackers Dat," which caught the attention of Miami label Slip-N-Slide Records. Plies made national news in 2006 when his entourage opened fire on the crowd in a Gainsville nightclub after his mic was cut. The initial bad press cleared after Plies's catchy lead single, "Shawty," hit the radio waves in July 2007 and his first album, THE REAL TESTAMENT, debuted at number 2 two on the Billboard 200 a month later. THE DEFINITION OF REAL appeared in 2008 fueled by the singles, "Please Excuse My Hands" and "Bust It Baby Part 2."
