Join the spirit and fun as the historic Yankees play their first season at the new Yankees Stadium. This limited edition J&R umbrella will keep you safe from rain and sun. It's a collector's piece for Yankee fans of future generations.
The struggle to unite the National and American leagues ended in a stalemate, in 1903. National already had the Giants. The American League wanted a New York team too. The historic New York Yankees began in 1903 as the New York Highlanders. They originally played atop one of Manhattan's highest natural areas on Broadway, between 165 and 168 Streets, called Hilltop Park. The Giants played at Brush Stadium nearby on 155th Street near the Harlem River, an area once famous as one of the Polo Grounds. Though the Highlanders had a rocky start, within a decade they added pinstripes to the uniform. A fire destroyed the Giants Stadium in 1911 and they temporarily shared Hilltop with the Highlanders. The American League moved to the renovated Giants Brush Stadium in 1913 and renamed the Highlanders to the New York Yankees. From then on, a winning New York Baseball tradition began.
With players like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, baseball and Yankee popularity grew that a larger stadium was needed. That was found across the Harlem River, in the Bronx, near 161st Street. Around 1923, the Yankees played their first full season at the then new stadium, dubbed the house that Ruth built, built on the outskirts of Macomb’s Dam Park. On September 21 2008 the Yankees moved Block away to a newer stadium. 2009 is the inaugural season, the first full season at the new home of the Yankees.
Celebrate the new Yankee Stadium on its very first season with this commemorative keepsake you can use in rainy or sunny weather.
