Performer: Swamp Dogg
Distributor: EMI Music Distribution

Notes: Personnel: Craig Kimbrough (drums). Recording information: The Dogg's House, Northridge, CA. Photographer: Kees Tabak. The idiosyncratic (read eccentric) soulman Swamp Dogg, responsible for such psychedelic funk classics as TOTAL DESTRUCTION TO YOUR MIND and RAT ON! (voted as some of the worst album art of all time!), is back to his old tricks with an all-covers album, a self-styled "tribute to rock 'n' roll" called GIVE 'EM AS LITTLE AS YOU CAN. Novelty factor aside, the album is actually a good one, roughly similar in style to the current Daptone label neo-soul craze. With his loose, funky band in tow, Dogg puts his highly personal stamp on such rock-&-rollclassics as "Johnny B. Goode," "Great Balls Of Fire," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," a psychedelic-heavy "Satisfaction" that wouldn't be out of place on a Funkadelic album, and a reprise of his great 1970 swamp funk hit, "Total Destruction To Your Mind." If you heard this set in a club, you'd probably think it was a pretty memorable night out.
