As well known for his contentious battle raps (he has written notorious slams on LL Cool J and Eminem) as he is for his raw, angry delivery, Canibus stayed true to form on HIP-HOP FOR SALE, his 2005 release. Actually, there are fewer overt attempts to take down other artists here, but Canibus's visceral attack on the mic is as heavy as ever, and the tracks--produced by Nottz--match the rapper's style with their muscular, mid-tempo stomp. This is a solid, hard-hitting effort that should please fans of East Coast hardcore rap.
