Unlike some of his previous releases, BACK II DA BASICS favors ballads and slow jams first and foremost. Sultry tunes like "When We Make Love" and "Want U To Be" dominate, but even more uptempo tracks like "Secrets" have a gentle, undulating vibe that insinuates its way into the listener's hips. Ginuwine is in fine voice throughout, and crisp, detail-rich production (from the artist himself) adds luster to this collection of simmering bedroom tracks.

R&B crooner Ginuwine has modeled his career after musical heroes Prince and Michael Jackson, and has covered tunes by both artists. However, where those performers have rock leanings, Ginuwine has rooted himself in smooth contemporary R&B with a healthy dose of hip-hop. Best known for his collaborations with production ace Timbaland, Ginuwine burst onto the scene in 1996 with GINUWINE...THE BACHELOR. Since then, his fame and success have only increased; Ginuwine now boasts superstar guests on his albums, acts in films and TV shows, and even has his own fragrances.
