Performer: Cameo
Distributor: Universal Distribution

Notes: Producer: Larry Blackmon. Compilation producers: Harry Weinger, Donald Cleveland. Includes liner notes by Tom Terrell. Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Suha Gur (Universal Music Group Studios). This is part of Mercury's Funk Essentials series. This collection of 12" tracks features remixes of Cameo funk classics, including "Candy," "Shake Your Pants," "Rigor Mortis," "Attack Me with Your Love," and, of course, "Word Up." Most of the remixes are simply extended groove sessions slipped into the originals, but many Cameo fans will savor the tracks; casual fans may find this to be overkill. The compilation also includes two versions of "She's Strange" and a previously unreleased mix of "Back and Forth." ~ Gina Boldman
This New York funk group, led by drummer/singer Larry Blackmon, began recording in the mid-1970s, but didn't reach its peak of popularity until the 1986 hit "Word Up," which defined Cameo's angular, synth-laced sound. Blackmon's outrageous stage persona and the group's simple hooks were key elements to the band's success.
