HELL IS INVISIBLE HEAVEN IS HERE (2007) was Psychic TV's first proper studio album in 12 years, but the disc remains remarkably true to the band's experimental aesthetic. The lengthy tracks veer between post-rock soundscapes, industrial punk, and inscrutable sound collages that are mesmerizing and unnerving at once. Like all of Psychic TV's output, HELL IS INVISIBLE keeps the listener guessing, which is one of the chief attractions for the band's fans.
In the early 1980s, from the pulsing remains of the British proto-industrial group Throbbing Gristle rose the collective known as Psychic TV (and several other aka's), led by the frightening and nimble mind of Genesis P-Orridge. Influenced by provocateurs like William S. Burroughs and Guy Debord, P-Orridge lives to provide spectacle in all his art. He incorporates stunning, often shocking visual images in his live performances, and concocts music and video that mesh noise, acid rhythms, provocative lyrics, and surprisingly infectious melodies. Psychic TV has at times included or collaborated with scores of big names in the industrial and experimental genres, including Larry Thrasher and the Hafler Trio's Andrew M. McKenzie, and have operated on an almost uninterrupted schedule through two decades and counting.
