The Pure Gold collection Hurt includes only 12 tracks of country-soul paragon Timi Yuro, but after considering the preponderance of re-recordings flooding the market, the compilation earns marks simply for sticking to the originals. After leading off with Yuro's biggest hit, the orchestral heartbreak of "Hurt," it only picks up two of her other best-known performances, "Smile" and "She Really Loves You." Shell out a few more dollars and instead spring for EMI's Hurt: The Best of Timi Yuro or RPM's The Lost Voice of Soul! ~ John Bush 25-song compilation of her Liberty work, all but one dating from her commercial and artistic peak in 1961-64. Includes all of her chart singles, and some of her more memorable LP tracks, as well as an informative history by Dawn Eden. A jumpy document of an impressive talent whose material was not always up to her skills, with early-'60s orchestral arrangements ranging from effective to dated. ~ Richie Unterberger
