Performer: Brutal Truth

It is no coincidence that Dan Lilker has pushed the boundaries of metal in three distinctly seminal acts, first as a founding member of Anthrax, then with Nuclear Assault, and here with Brutal Truth. Lilker and company led the charge of extreme grindcore for almost a decade before imploding due to inner-band clashes. SOUNDS OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM/KILL TREND SUICIDE gathers the band's final releases on one disc, a fitting tribute for a lamented group.
Originally formed in 1990 as a side project for former Anthrax guitarist Dan Lilker, Brutal Truth quickly became a major force on the American grindcore scene. Brutal Truth's manic sound mixes elements of death metal and grind with occasional outbursts of New York-style hardcore and outright noise. The band gained some notoriety for their Guinness Book of World Records title for shortest music video--for "Collateral Damage," which lasts less than three seconds. Brutal Truth broke up in 1999, but reformed in 2006, touring and releasing its first new material in nearly 10 years.
