Notes: On Rope a Dope Style, LeVert still sounded energetic and appealing on such cuts as "Nobody Does It Better" and "Hey Girl." Gerald LeVert will never have the same command or dramatic presence as his dad, but he's developed into a sincere, effective vocalist. The urban soul group LeVert was formed in Ohio in 1984 by the two sons of Eddie Levert, founder of the iconic `70s smooth soul group, the O'Jays. Sean and Gerald LeVert took a page from their father's book by incorporating polished grooves and sweet, close harmonies into their R&B sound. Adding third member Marc Gordon, LeVert released their debut, I GET HOT, in 1985, following up with 1986's BLOODLINE, an album that yielded the #1 R&B hit "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop (Goes My Mind)." THE BIG THROWDOWN (1987) proved to be the group's biggest seller, producing two R&B chart hits. JUST COOLIN' (1988) also went gold. Even when Gerald began concentrating on a solo career in the `90s, LeVert continued to record and perform, releasing three more albums. Gerald died in 2006, followed by Sean in 2008.
