There are over 300,000 products at J&R. How do I find the ones that I'm looking for?
 
We offer a number of ways to simplify shopping for a product. The 2 most common methods are Search and Browse. Search is designed for people who pretty much know what they want. It's like going to a salesperson and asking, "Do you have a _ ?" Browse is like entering a department store and wandering around, discovering new and exciting things. We will describe the Search method first and then follow with Browse.

At the top left, under the J&R logo, is our Search box. To search our inventory, type whatever you know about the product you want to find in the search box and click GO. The more you enter, the more focused your search becomes, generally returning fewer results. If you can't find what you are looking for, you might want to enter fewer words to get a broader set of results.
 
The words you enter in this search box are not case-sensitive. It doesn't matter whether the letters are upper or lower case.
 
In many cases, the search engine accounts for possible spelling errors or mistakes when you make your entry. Spaces between words, however, may have an impact on your search results. Typing in ice cub would deliver the same results as Ice Cube. If you enter Icecube as one word, you'll have similar results. If you enter Icecub as one word, you may not net any results.
 
If you're looking for a particular brand and product, it's better to use both the brand and product name in the search box. Suppose you're shopping for an Apple iPod digital player. If you simply enter 'Apple' in the search box, you'll get about 200 products as results and if you only entered 'ipod' you'd get about 80 results. Entering 'Apple ipod' delivers about 30 results, including Apple iPod players and Apple-brand accessories. Doing a search for 'Apple ipod player' brings you 10 results - all Apple iPod players.
 
Of course, if you know the product's model number, you can enter it (e.g. Apple m9460ll/a) and you will get the one result.

A successful search will display results in the following format:

Page: In order to display this list as quickly as possible, we divide the list into pages of 20 products each. You can choose which page you want to view by clicking these links. The << or >> links allow you to skip over 10 pages or 200 products, so you can view larger results more easily.

Sort by: The list of products are normally presented in the order of popularity, 'Top Sellers'. The sort by links allow you to display the current list of items in a different order, such as by; Title (alphabetically ascending) or Price (lowest to highest).

Clicking on any product on the list will provide a long description, pricing, and related accessories of that particular product.

You will see some other links at the top of a search result page, which can help you find products or related areas without having to re-enter a search term in the search box.

Where suggested word is an alternate spelling for a possibly misspelled search term. Simply click the link to search for the alternate spelling.

This choice is only available when there is more than one product displayed as results from your search. It allows you to further refine the results that are displayed. An example would be if you want to see only products of a particular color (ie. gold). You would enter gold in the search box, check the "in results" box, and click GO to get all products with gold within the currently displayed results.

You can also shop for products by browsing through our stores. We have several different stores, which are listed as tab-like buttons at the top of each page on our site.

Each store has a list of departments (categories) and some of those departments are divided up into specific related areas (sub categories).
 

Our breadcrumb trail, like kids leaving pieces of bread on the road to help find the way back home, is a collection of all the refinement links of your current search or browse results. It is a history of the choices you made leading to your current page, so you can easily back track to an earlier point. It is located near the top of the page, starting with Home > and is followed by each refinement, up to your latest selection. The advantage of the breadcrumb is that you can quickly go to any point within your current result history, without having to start from the beginning or use the back button, by simply clicking one of the breadcrumb trail links.

For example when browsing for 4 Megapixel Canon Digital Cameras that cost $300, the breadcrumb trail may look like this:


If you want to change your refinements, you can click on the word in the breadcrumb trail to the left of the refinement you want to change. It will then be available on the left navigation bar again. For example, if you wanted to modify your results to find all 4 Megapixel Nikon Digital Cameras, (instead of Canon), you would click on Megapixels: 4 - 4.9, then choose NIKON under Brand. It's that easy to change the way you want to find products. You can also refine the browse results by performing a search within results. You can do this by entering a word in the search box, check the "in results" box, and then click GO.
